Vernon’s Big Weekend Round-Up!
May 13th, 2009

Officialvernonkay.com caught up with Vernon to get his lowdown on One Big Weekend both on stage and behind the scenes here is what he had to say along with some exclusive video of the day:

One Big Weekend was absolutely out of this world, by far the biggest and best so far I have been involved in.

All the others have been fantastic but this knocked the socks off what we have done previously.  The line up was superb, the weather was great and the people of Swindon were very receptive with open arms, thank you very much to everyone that said hello, and wanted a picture! If you got one send it to me at officialvernonkay@iviva.com and we’ll put em up on the site!

Friday night started off at Liquid and Ignite, great carpet club!  Annie Mac, Pete Tong, 2ManyDJ’s, Erol Alkan all absolutely rocked it, didn’t stay too long as I had work Saturday morning.

Speaking of which I had a bit of a headache during the show which with my croaky voice made for a tough show – thanks for all the texts they kept me going!!

From there we went straight down to the Radio One Big Weekend site which was incredible, it was massive – the biggest  we have been on so far.  Greg James and Edith Bowman opened the gates and then the first act I saw, I do believe was Ne-Yo which was very good and then Saturday night I saw snooze….Snow Patrol who were great!!  And then Saturday night, we had my parents over and my dad went mental, I thought he was going to have a heart attack dancing to myself and Pete’s sound clash which a great laugh.  I have got to say, never missed a beat in my mixing, I am very proud of myself, all the practice paid off!  Full set listings available on Radio 1′s website.  All the tunes got such great reactions and of course I won, but we won’t talk about that!  And then we went back to the hotel, had a couple of drinks in the bar with my parents and then….

Nihal and Reggie Yates and I DJ’d in an Indian restaurant which was hilarious just infront of everyone. Thanks to the guys at the Bombay Lounge for providing us with a great sound system and lovely food that went on till about 2am and then we went on to Su-Ju where ATFC were Dj-ing which was very good, didn’t stay there too long as had to get to bed, As I was feeling a bit tired!

Sunday saw me take the video you can see below, I was a bit ropey actually, felt terrible as you will see on the video I look absolutely awful.  Went and saw Moyles and Tim Westwood on their sound clash, it was good-but not as good as mine and Pete’s the previous day and then the Prodigy was the main event for me that weekend.  They stole the show, what they do on that stage I have never seen before in my life at Radio 1 Big Weekend, absolutely awesome, so many lights, massive sound system, the bass was kicking in, I think it left everyone feeling physically sick with the basslines and the noise.  But well done to them, it was absolutely amazing.  And that wrapped up One Big Weekend, check out the video to see it all!
