So, since filling in for Chris on The Breakfast Show and performing in ‘Scott Mills – The Musical’ in Edinburgh, (which marked my Edinburgh Festival debut no less!) I have become quite the Bear Grills!
The school holidays have lead me to catch the camping bug big time! What else is there to do at night time with a five year old kid than go camping in the back garden? We’ve experienced everything nature can throw at us – rain, sleet, snow, sweltering heat – it’s been quite the apocalyptic experience. We have had child disasters which forced us to evacuate the tent and go back into the house. We’ve had foxes and been kept awake by the dog barking at field mice, but overall it’s been a brilliant experience and as we speak the tent is still up hoping to be used in the not too distant future before Phoebe goes back to school.
Golf wise, my handicap has come down by three shots which is good news, I am now playing off of eleven! However, I had an incident just this week where I duffed a six iron into the green causing it to snap! I was victorious with Gordon Smart at the first inaugural ‘Bizarre Masters’, both myself and Gordon picked up the trophy. Other competitors included Jamie Redknapp, Phil Barb, the McFly boys and a couple of lads from The Enemy. A couple of pints where sunk on and off of the course, and we walked away victorious so bring on next year when the tartan jacket will be up for grabs again. Hopefully we can have back to back victories!
Check out all the photos of the competition HERE!
I had a bit of a nightmare the other day when I scratched my car at the mercy of a blimmin’ bollard!

On a slightly lighter front, I’ve taken up gardening again! I am just getting under the brambles in the back garden. It is quite the wildlife experience; we have found pheasants, foxes, and little Roebuck deer in the woods just behind the house!
This weekend sees my first trip to Creamfields, I have heard so much about it but never actually been, I think it’s because I prefer to do my raving indoors – my festival days are well and truly behind me but I’m really looking forward to this as it’s all about Dance! I think I’ve wrangled one of the biggest guest lists in the history of guest lists, I’ll be taking along 25 cheeky Northern Monkeys who I have no doubt you will be able to hear in the background on the Radio One show 1-4pm this Saturday with myself, Andy and George. We are going to smash up the BBC Radio One area which shall be good; we have some very special guests as well….stay tuned for that!
Whilst we’re on the subject of Dance – The new Chicane tune is an absolute belter! It’s called ‘Hiding all the Stars’ and trust me, it is going to be THE post-summer anthem! Check it out HERE!
Now believe it or not there was an awful lot of controversy around my naming ‘Jazzles’ as the greatest sweet ever invented…

…White chocolate buttons covered in hundreds and thousands, absolutely amazing! I didn’t realise you could buy them in a pack because you only ever used to be able to buy them at the penny tray at your local newsagents, so I was very excited to discover the packet! ‘Jazzles’ all the way!
But, I am nothing if not fair on my website, so if you’ve got a favourite old school sweet that you’re convinced can beat Jazzles send in a picture of you eating them to Officialvernonkay@iviva.com and we might even sort out a little competition…
Until next time – Rave on!!

Looking forward to a couple of Family Fortunes in particular..cos I was there…and was brilliant! John Barrowman and his family in particular were absolute genius to watch! Of course Vern you were still a legend!

Caught this link through your Twitter…love ‘Jazzles’ although when I bought them from the penny tray I don’t think they were branded back in the day…
I may have to do a ‘sweet’ thing over at my blog (http://diaryofa70steen.blogspot.com) after this memory jolt… Aztecs, Kojak lollies, Spanish Gold (I sourced some in Scotland recently.. delicious still years on now branded as sweet tobacco!!!)oh and Spangles….. what where those chewy minty stripy sweets called??
